We want to bring your attention to a concerning trend involving the misuse of nitrous oxide (NOS)—commonly known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is making a troubling comeback among youth, in part because it is both easily accessible and affordable.

Parents and guardians play a critical role in helping to prevent substance misuse. Open and honest conversations with your child about the dangers of nitrous oxide and other inhalants can make a meaningful difference.

To support these conversations, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) has developed helpful resources for parents and families. We encourage you to review these materials to learn more about the risks and warning signs associated with nitrous oxide use and how to discuss them with your child.

Please contact Student Services at (714) 424-5020 for more information or additional resources/support. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe, healthy, and informed.
