Principal's Message

August 2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to another exciting year at TeWinkle!  As a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) School, we are proud of our innovative and challenging programs that focus on project based learning and STEAM.  Our students have the options of taking courses in Robotics, Design and Engineers, Space and Flight or Medical Detectives.  Students also have the option of focusing on music, AVID, Publications or ASB if their interests lead them in those directions.

To further enhance the academic rigor here at TeWinkle, this year we have redesigned our Honors and regular courses to included cross-curricular activities and off-site learning opportunities that are geared toward pushing students to analyze problems and projects at a high level of critical thinking.  We modernized our library, added a state of the art Project Lead the Way lab and upgraded the infrastructure with air-conditioning in the entire school to provide for the best academic environment for our students.  Our school motto is “Dare to Dream, Learn and Achieve” and with that goal, our entire school community is focused on the whole student.  We believe all students have the ability to learn and grow, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well.  The Middle School years are an exciting and challenging age.  It is the only time when a human brain has a “second growth spurt” and much like their bodies during this age, a middle schooler’s brain actually expands.  The teachers at TeWinkle take advantage of this growth by pushing the students to problem solve, think critically and support their claims by using evidence.  By the time a student promotes to high school, they will have learned to cite evidence, annotate reading, research topics, cooperate in groups, argue their point of view, build projects, play music, organize themselves, and write essays.  They most likely will have also grown in height and maturity as well.

Parent involvement and communication is highly encouraged and we welcome parents to participate in their student’s academic lives by following their grades on School-Loop, e-mailing or calling teachers with questions, or simply coming in to school to talk to our counselor, community facilitator or administration.

Let’s have another amazing year of exploration, growth and learning!
